Michael Fabiano
Tenor
Twenty-four year old American tenor, Michael Fabiano has just debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra as Rodolfo in a concert performance of La Boheme where he "earned an ovation for his golden-toned singing in Rodolfo's first-act aria. Caressing the music with a firm, vibrant voice, he molded the phrases elegantly and rose effortlessly to a gleaming high C". This past spring he perfomed Rinuccio for his La Scala debut under Mş Chailly. He has also recently performed the Rossini Stabat Mater in Spoleto in gala concert honoring Thomas Schippers which was recorded for television. This cames after a great success with the Greek National Opera in Athens for his debut as Rinuccio and in the title role of Stravinsky's Mavra. He made his professional debut last summer as Alfredo in Klagenfurt's Traviata. Last year Mr. Fabiano added Des Grieux in the Massenet Manon to his repertoire in performances at AVA in Philadelphia. He was a 2007 winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council. At AVA, he has
performed a number of main stage roles including Lenski in Eugene Onegin, Il Duca in Rigoletto, Roberto in Le Villi, and Frohin Das Rheingold. In early 2007 he performed Anatol in Barber's Vanessa, and was the tenor soloist in the Rossini Stabat Mater.Recipient of a Bachelor's degree in voice at the University of Michigan, Mr. Fabiano performed Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Valčre in Tartuffe. Last year Michael made his Carnegie Hall debut as Don Antonio in Donizetti's Dom Sébastiene with the Opera Orchestra of New York. He has also appeared as Nemorino in L'Elisir D'amore with the New Jersey Opera Theater and was an apprentice artist at The Santa Fe Opera in 2005.
Mr. Fabiano is the 2007 winner of the Sarah Tucker Study Grant and has won prizes in numerous competitions, including 1st Place in the Zachary Competition in 2007, in the 2006 Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Competition and both 2nd Place and the José Carreras Prize for the best tenor in the 2006 Julián Gayarre Competition, held in Pamplona, Spain. He has also been the recipient of the Grand Prize in the 2005 Florida Grand Opera Competition Junior Division, and was the recipient of a 2007 George London Foundation Encouragement Award to a Tenor in Memory of James McCracken. He is currently a resident artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and studies voice with Bill Schuman.
After the Philadelphia Orchestra concerts Mr. Fabiano debuts with the Minnesota Orchestra in a concert Traviata. Next season takes him to Kansas City as Rodolfo and to Opera Colorado as Pinkerton. Debuts at the Semperoper Dresden, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Paris Opera are upcoming in the following seasons. Roles in preparation include Faust and Edgardo.
