James Valenti Tenor |
| American tenor James Valenti is currently performing Pinkerton with Michigan Opera Theater after having just sung the title role in Gounod's Faust with Opera Carolina. He opened the 2008-09 season in Toyoma, Japan as Rodolfo under Maestro Chung. He also recently made his La Scala debut as Rodolfo performing in their Zeffirelli production of La Boheme. Earlier last spring he was Rodolfo in Florida Grand Opera's new production of Boheme (Maestro Veronesi) followed by his return to Hamburg as Nemorino. He recently appeared on "Live from Lincoln Center" on nationwide television in North America as Pinkerton in the NYCOP Butterfly. He also recently sang his first Romeo with the the Minnesota Opera. "...is an ideal Romeo, an attractive actor...with an expressive tenor that's just right for this demanding role". In late fall he made his house debut with San Francisco Opera as Pinkerton. to his La Scala debut this summer as Rodolfo. In between there have been Traviatas with the Salzburg Festival with Netrebko and
Hampson, conducted by Rizzi, as well as at La Monnaie Brussels, Bologna, Hamburg, Las Palmas, Toronto (andthe Deutsche Oper Berlin next spring) and other roles - Edgardo, Faust, Pinkerton, the Duke, Nemorino and Fritz, in performances at many of the leading opera houses and concert venues throughout the world including Tokyo, Genova, Trieste, Dresden, Marseille, Philadelphia, London, Miami, Palm Beach and Washington. In the next year he will be featured in the title role in Roméo et Juliette and as Des Grieux in the Massenet Manon.

| Mr. Valenti received his training at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and has received many awards in his early career, including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions winner in 2002. In addition he has made television appearances on A&E's Breakfast with the Arts in the U.S., on German and Austrian television and on RAI in Italia. He was also featured in Opera News magazine in their Sound Bites. |
Last summer featured three important debuts in the United States: The Ravinia Festival with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (under James Conlon) as Pinkerton, a gala concert with Patricia Racette with the San Francisco Opera and La Boheme with the Minnesota Orchestra where it was written: "Valenti's performance was a vocal tour-de-force. He's an old school tenor with a clear and crystalline, hall-filling voice and naturally acting style...a powerful instrument and ardent interpretation". That fall also had Mr. Valenti in Dresden and Marseille as Pinkerton, and in Seoul for his Korean Opera debut in the Pizzi production of Traviata. |
| 2008-09 continues with the Verdi Requiem for the Bergen Philharmonic, Norway under Andrew Litton, followed by the Duca in Rigoletto with Palm Beach Opera. He debuts as Rodolfo with Dallas Opera, in Berlin (Traviata with Gheorghiu) and the Teatro San Carlo, Napoli as Pinkerton. Covent Garden, Paris and Firenze debuts and a return to San Francisco are scheduled in the next seasons. Mr. Valenti continues to study voice with Bill Schuman. |
