Yalí-Marie Williams
Soprano
Puerto Rican born soprano Yalí-Marie Williams has just scored a great success singing the Verdi Requiem in Colorado. She also recently performed Violetta to glowing reviews with Manitoba Opera. "She was superb as Violetta, possessing a refined, pure voice. She crafts each note and finishes them with a flourish. Williams was the clear star of the show, her voice full of subtle power, supremely accurate and versitile. From the touching "Addio del passato" in which she floated effortlessly to the highest notes, to the heart-rending duet "Dite alla giovane"...her sensitive interpretation touched us all. She nearly blew us away in "sempre Libera'...She has a natural delivery, powering through the most commanding parts gracefully...A terrific actress as well, the talented Williams is a remarkably complete package". Just prior she was with the Los Angeles Opera as Desdemona. She performed the title role of Suor Angelica with Opera Puerto Rico last fall. In 2007 she sang the title role in Luisa Fernanda with Placido Domingo for the Los Angeles Opera.
Making her LA Opera debut, "Puerto Rican-born Yalí-Marie Williams', in the title role, rendition of a love torn woman is a perfect fit with the nonpareil Plácido Domingo both of whom sing their roles with the utmost believability and passion" In 2006-07 she also sang in a gala concert with Placido Domingo celebrating his 35th anniversary performing in Puerto Rico. She was a winner of the Placido Domingo Operalia International Competition several years ago.
